Five ELDs removed: check your device before October 6

FMCSA removed five electronic logging devices from its registered list on August 6: MOONLIGHT ELD, HGRS ELD, HIGHEST ELD, TRUCKFORD ELD and Sparkle ELD. The agency said they failed to meet the required technical standards.

What carriers need to do

The notice tells affected carriers to stop using the revoked devices, record hours with paper logs or suitable logging software, and move to a compliant registered ELD before October 6, 2026. From that date, continuing to use one of the listed devices can lead to an out-of-service order.

Check the identifier, not just the brand

Compare the model and ELD identifier in the official notice with the device installed in your truck. A similar product name is not enough. Check the current registered and revoked lists again before buying a replacement, since a device can be reinstated after deficiencies are corrected.

For hotshot businesses subject to the ELD rules, this is a scheduling and equipment task to resolve before a load is on the line.
