Roadcheck 2026: cargo securement still deserves a second look

CVSA’s 2026 International Roadcheck results put cargo securement back in focus for open-deck operators. Inspectors recorded 1,724 cargo-securement out-of-service violations across North America, representing 12.4% of the vehicle out-of-service violations reported.

The bigger picture

The three-day operation included 54,575 inspections. Most inspected vehicles and drivers had no out-of-service violations. Brake problems remained the largest combined vehicle issue, while cargo securement ranked fourth among vehicle violation categories.

A practical pre-trip reminder

For a hotshot with a flatbed or gooseneck trailer, use the results as a reason to revisit tie-down condition, edge protection, load movement and the securement method appropriate to the cargo. Do not turn an inspection percentage into a prediction about one carrier or one load.
